How Pennywick is sold
Pennywick is free to download and use. One optional purchase unlocks everything the app does on your own device, permanently. A separate subscription exists for one thing only — having receipts read by a cloud model that Pennywick pays for — because that costs money every single time it runs.
Current prices are on the App Store listing, in your own currency. They are deliberately not repeated here, where they would be wrong for most countries and stale eventually.

Why a subscription exists at all
Everything Pennywick does on your iPhone is a one-time purchase, because it costs nothing to run once you own it. Reading a receipt with a cloud model is different: somebody pays a provider for every receipt. Charging once for something that bills forever is how apps end up quietly removing the feature.
You can skip the subscription entirely and still reach a cloud model — the one-time unlock includes using your own OpenAI or Google Gemini key, billed to your account rather than through Pennywick. Pro is for people who would rather not obtain a key.
Things that are never gated
- Getting your data out. CSV and full backup export always work. An app that holds your records hostage is not a privacy app.
- Joining a household. Accepting an invitation never costs anything — one paying person can share with a household of people who pay nothing.
- Your ledger. Nothing you have already entered is ever locked away.

Is Pennywick free?

Is Pennywick a subscription?

What does the one-time purchase include?
Unlimited receipt scanning, household sharing with family or roommates, insights by quarter and year, recurring bills and income, and cloud reading with your own API key. It does not expire.
Do I need the Pro subscription?
Most people do not. Pro covers hosted cloud receipt reading, which costs money every time it runs. If you own the one-time unlock you can reach a cloud model with your own OpenAI or Google Gemini key instead, billed to your account. Pro buys convenience, not a better result.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
Nothing you have already entered is locked away. A lapsed subscription stops adding capability; it never takes any away, and CSV and full backup export work on every tier including free.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Pennywick never sees your payment details and cannot issue a refund itself. Subscriptions are cancelled from Settings on your iPhone, not from inside the app.
