Version 1.3.2
Household sharing
You can now share a ledger with the people you live with — and it goes through Apple's iCloud sharing, not through me. There is still no Pennywick server holding your transactions and no account to create.
New
- Household sharing, in two shapes. A Family household shares the full ledger. A Roommates household shares expenses only, so shared costs are visible without exposing everything else you spend.
Both use Apple CloudKit Sharing with people you invite by the system share sheet. Everyone needs Pennywick on their own device and an Apple ID signed into iCloud. Invitations can be revoked, and leaving a household removes access.
Improved
- More accurate receipt reading for dates, merchants and currencies — the three fields that were wrong most often
- Stronger PDF, email and file import
- A clearer dashboard, and a Settings screen that was overdue a rethink
Fixed
- Household invites: accepting, recreating and a handful of sync edge cases that could leave two devices disagreeing about who was in a household
On the privacy question this raises
Sharing a ledger means data reaching someone else's device, so it is worth being exact. Household sharing uses Apple's CloudKit Sharing directly between the people invited. The records stay in Apple's infrastructure, in accounts you control. I do not get a copy and cannot read the shared ledger. What changes is that the people you invite can see what you shared with them — which is the point of the feature, and is the only thing that changes.
Pennywick is on the App Store. Something not working the way it should? Tell me — it's a one-person project and the messages get read.
