Version 2.2.0
A report to hand over
CSV is the export for a spreadsheet. Plenty of people need something else: a page to send to an employer, an accountant, or whoever is paying you back. This version adds it, and tightens up how foreign-currency amounts are shown, because a report is only worth sending if its numbers are ones a receipt states.
New
- An expense report as a PDF. In Settings → Data & backup → Expense report (PDF), pick this month, last month or a custom range. You get every expense in date order, the total, totals by category, and — if you want them — each receipt image on a page of its own. It is free, like CSV export. The PDF is made on your iPhone and saved wherever you choose; nothing is uploaded.
- Estimates say so. A foreign amount converted at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate is now marked ≈ in the entry screen, the ledger and the PDF, with the amount on the receipt beside it. Your bank will have used its own rate, so you can type the one you were actually charged. A rate you type is recorded as yours, and that amount is shown without the ≈.
What the report leaves out, and says so
A report that quietly omitted things would be worse than none, so the screen tells you before you export:
- Income and savings moves are not in it. It is a list of expenses.
- In a shared household, only your own expenses are included. What other members logged is left out, and the screen says how many entries that was.
- An entry with no home-currency value can't be added into a total without making one up, so it is left out and noted, rather than counted at the wrong amount.
- Receipt images that live on another device are not in the PDF. Images are not synced between devices, and the screen counts how many are missing.
Improved
- The rating request counts a day of typing entries. Only a clean scan counted before, so someone who types everything could use Pennywick daily for a year and never be asked. A day with a typed entry now counts too, at most once a day.
Fixed
- Google AI Studio keys. Google now issues Gemini keys that begin
AQ., and Pennywick refused them as "That doesn't look like a key". Both the new format and the olderAIzakeys are accepted. - A key the Keychain won't store no longer looks like a bad paste. Pennywick now says the key was not stored and nothing will be sent.
- A rate you typed was saved as if the ECB had published it. It is now recorded as your own.
Pennywick is on the App Store. Something not working the way it should? Tell me — it's a one-person project and the messages get read.
