Version 2.0.0

Pennywick is now free

Pennywick started as a paid app: one purchase, no subscription, everything included. That was the honest way to sell something with no server and no ads. It was also a wall in front of a privacy tool at the exact moment someone was deciding whether to trust it.

So from this version Pennywick is free to download, and the shape of what you pay for has changed.

If you already bought it

Nothing changes, and there is nothing for you to do. Everything you had stays unlocked, permanently. It happens by itself the first time you open this version — there is nothing to restore and nothing to tap.

Free

  • Unlimited manual entries, the full ledger, search, filters and tags
  • Budgets, savings goals, and this month's insights
  • Five receipt scans a week, from the camera or a file
  • CSV and full backup export, Face ID lock, and iCloud sync across your devices

Standard — one purchase

  • Unlimited receipt scanning
  • Household sharing with family or roommates; the people you invite join for free
  • Insights across a quarter or a year
  • Recurring entries for rent, subscriptions and salary
  • Bring your own OpenAI or Gemini API key, for receipts the device can't read

Pro — an optional subscription

Everything in Standard, plus cloud receipt reading: up to 150 receipts a month read by a hosted model, with no API key to set up. Only the text pulled off a receipt is ever sent, never the photo, and it stays off until you turn it on. It is a subscription because it costs money every time it runs. If you own Standard, Pro is offered at a lower price — and you can already reach a cloud model with your own key without it.

What stays free for everyone

Exporting your own data, on every tier. That is not something that will ever sit behind a purchase. Accepting a household invitation is free too; only creating a household needs Standard.

Nothing you have already saved is affected by any of this.
